Welcome to Krop Kreative!

I am so excited that you are here! I’m thrilled to embark on this visual journey with you as we dive into the captivating realms of photography, graphic design and my personal life.

To say this website has been a long time in the making is an understatement. Krop Kreative was unofficially born in the fall of 2015 while I was in Design Studio II. The design brief for the final project of the semester was to create a personal brand. At the bright-eyed age of 21, I thought I had it all figured out and where my brand was going to go. However, once I put pen to paper all I could draw was some amebas attacking my initials that I had drawn out in shitty geometric layouts. I came to realize that I didn’t want a personal brand using my name, Kayla Ermer. I wanted something more! Something to encompass both graphic design and photography as well as all the quirky parts of my life. Something that could grow with me no matter what path I took. And yet, I couldn’t develop a new name for myself.

Inspiration finally struck and I came up with my logo, but I never did come up with a new name for that final project and ended up turning it in with Kayla Ermer attached to it. My design pals and I ended up dubbing my logo as the ‘crop k’ given its appearance was the letter k worked into the crop symbol. This is what we started calling my brand in conversational speak. While the groundwork was laid, it wasn’t until (give or take) the spring of 2018 that I really started using the name Krop Kreative.

2018, you say? But Kayla, it’s 2023! Yes, yes. It’s taken me 5 years to get this thing going. I told you a long ass time in the making! Over the last 5 years, and well really 8 years since I developed this brand, there’s been a lot of things going on behind the scenes. I realized that the bright-eyed 21-year-old did, in fact, not have it all figured out. Life happened. Anxiety, depression, breakups, moves, health and many more setbacks happened. But amazing things also happened. Doors closed and better ones opened. That bright-eyed girl is now 29 and she still doesn’t have it figured out, but she’s no longer afraid to put herself out there and try. With 8 years of podcast inspiration, sketchbooks and sticky notes filled with ideas floating around, here we are…doing the damn thing!

I must be honest, I’m still figuring out this whole blog thing and what I want it to feature. But for now, you can expect to read about the amazing stories I’m visually telling through photography. I’m still working on where I want to take the design arm of my business, but I have the groundwork laid and I’m so excited to share more about it in the near future. And of course, stories about my crazy personal life will be peppered throughout it all.
