Something Cool is Coming!

I’m so excited to launch my very first passion project, Cool Dzins, and I can’t wait to share it with you. The idea of creating a zine has been hanging out in my brain for a while, and it’s finally time to bring it to life. It’s going to be a mix of design, storytelling, and whatever random things I’m into at the moment. It’ll be messy, nostalgic, sometimes deep, and sometimes just dumb fun. Each issue will be different, but at its core, Cool Dzins is about creating for the sake of creating. No rules, no expectations—just some cool dzins.

So, What’s a Cool Dzin?

Well, let me take you back to third grade! Back in my grade school days, I had to write a lot of journal entries, and my mom, being the sentimental person she is, kept all of them and I’m so glad she did. In 2023, I was flipping through some of those old notebooks and came across one where I meant to write “cool designs,” but I accidentally spelled it “cool dzins.” It made me laugh, and that’s when it hit me—how perfect that misspelling was.

After thinking about it some more, I thought this misspelling could be the perfect name for a business or brand, maybe something for goods and wearables. But as much as I love many types of design, it turns out editorial design is where my heart really lies. So, Cool Dzins is officially becoming a zine. I wanted to create something without any rules—just a space to dive into whatever I’m into at the time. It’s a creative outlet, a place to explore, and a way to make something fun and a little messy.

Here’s the Plan

Cool Dzins will drop once a month on the 23rd—because that’s my favorite number, so why the hell not? It feels like the perfect fit for something that’s meant to be about creating for me. Since this is a passion project and I’m using a free Issuu account, each issue will only be available for a month before it disappears into the void. So if you’re interested, you’ll need to read it before it’s gone! Plus, I love the idea of creating something that’s there for a little while and then vanishes.

You can check out Issue 0 on my Issuu account to get a sense of what the vibe is all about. It’ll give you a peek into the inspiration behind this project and a taste of what’s coming next. The visual style will probably change from issue to issue, depending on what I’m feeling at the time. One month could be more illustrative, the next could be all about photos. There’s no set style—just whatever feels right for that issue.
